“This change is in no way an improvement to the previous misguided and homophobic policy. To the extent that there is any real threat to the quality of donated blood given current screening methods, the threat is from diseases/infections that can be transmitted by any person regardless of sexual orientation or gender. Singling out men who have sex with men is a continuation of a guilt-ridden publicity stunt intended to give the public a false sense of security about the blood supply. If sexually transmitted infections are in fact a threat to the blood supply, ALL potential donors should meet the same standard of safe sexual practice since ALL donors are potential sources of such infections.”
